
Mary Frederick Mathieu and Her Sister-in-Law Mrs. Annie M. Mathieu
Mary Frederick Mathieu appears in City of Richmond Directories in 1927 and 1927 as being employed by Charles M. Robinson Architects, first as a Stenographer and then as “Office Secretary.” She is not present in the directories before 1927 and is not present after 1929. A detailed search of Ancestry.com showed that she was married to Larry M. Mathieu on June 9, 1923 in Phillipsburg, Pennsylvania. Larry (later “Laurence”) M. Mathieu is shown in the T. C. Williams (University of Richmond) Yearbook in 1926 as President of the State Bar Club. A City Directory search shows that in 1927 he was an attorney at Stone and Webster before being an independent attorney in the Law Building at 4 North 8th Street, Suite 510 in 1928. The Mathieus lived at 1630 Monument Avenue, Apartment #16. After 1929, there is no separate Listing for Mrs. Mathieu and Mr. Mathieu moved to 1118 Grove Avenue, Apartment #1. On May 31, 1931 a divorce was granted to Mrs. Mathieu as plantiff.
“Mrs. A. M. Mathieu” appears on a 1927 air mail envelope sent “c/o C. M. Robinson & Co., 1001 Times-Dispatch Building.” Bruce Robinson (born 1925), son of Charles Custer Robinson remembered a “Miss Annie” as office secretary at Charles M. Robinson Architects. A detailed search of Ancestry.com and Newspapers.com could not confirm this or give any additional information about Mary Frederick Mattieu or A. M. Mathieu.
